The publishing philosophy at Anvil is: "The discovery, nurturing, and promotion of new and established Canadian literary talent."

Our Spring ’08 list features more of the innovative and progressive books that Anvil Press is known for: DAMP: Contemporary Vancouver Media Arts, edited and designed by Oliver Hockenhull and Alex MacKenzie, is a visually exuberant, full colour work. A rare and art-infused statement, DAMP is a long overdue critical engagement regarding the city’s media art scene—now. Elysium, is a moving and insightful debut collection of stories from Toronto author and self-described “literary proctologist” Pamela Stewart. Imagining British Columbia: Land, Memory, & Place features humorous and poignant essays and memoirs from 20 contemporary writers. These pieces have all been inspired by, or in some way affected by, that left-hand corner of the country known as British Columbia.
Our Spring ’08 line-up reaffirms our commitment to Canadian writers and our dedication to the literary arts. For a complete list of our backlist titles, please click the genre link to the right. Happy reading!

Salvatore Difalco’s Black Rabbit and Other Stories adds to our collection of provocative gritty fiction with its stories of urban dystopias and examinations of violence and brutality.
Clint Burnham’s poetry riffs on the morphing of language in Rental Van, demonstrating how language is the “nurse and oxygen tent of epistemology,” while beneath the slapstick exterior of many of Stuart Ross’s poems in I Cut My Finger lurk dark threats and even darker pleasures.
The beautifully illustrated art book, Transitions of a Still Life: The Ceramic Works of Tam Irving, with text by Carol E. Mayer, examines the works of ceramic artist Tam Irving as a unique cultural activity, while At Home with History: The Untold Secrets of Heritage Homes, by Eve Lazarus vividly brings to life the social histories of selected heritage homes in Greater Vancouver.
